If it's the Driftwood outside the main gate of Camp Lejuene, those Marines know them girls real well. A couple may even be married.

He does all of these tours very well. His summary on the Panther (I would not want to go to war in this tank)* and of the T34/85 (This tank was made to serve the interests of the state, not its crew). *It failed the "Oh bugger, the tank's on fire" test dismally. I agree. Really made me re...

If you are willing to go to Boston, you may be interested in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Nice area, hotels run the gambit. We have been there twice now and have enjoyed it both times. Plus you have the USS Wisconsin down in Norfolk.

Actually, that understates the problems with the entire Klasse XXI mythology (and it was mostly mythology). In reality, the Klasse XXI was both good and original, only the original bits weren't any good while the good bits weren't original. The Klasse XXI wasn't the first high-speed underwater-opti...

https://www.amazon.com/Racing-Sunrise-Reinforcing-Americas-1941-1942/dp/1591149568 This looks fascinating, especially the timeline needed to shift US army and armyair force units to the far east in shape to fight effectively. Still sitting in my to read pile though, so I can't recommend one way or ...

"Doomed from the Start". the story of the Philippine Air Force (US and Philippino) at the start of WW2. A tragic story of bungling and missed opportunities at the top matched by heroism on the flight line. MacArthur does not come out well. I second this. It shows MacArthur in all his inco...

I agree, it's just not something you see in the modern day.

Do you know if it kicks like a mule when fired?

As was predictable, the Huffington Post and its readership are blaming these latest attacks on a combination of Donald Trump's racism, George Bush's 2003 invasion of Iraq, blowback from American and European neo-colonialism around the world, America's support for Israel, and the refusal of right-wi...

I've read the book. I think the story of USS Houston would make a great HBO series. No need to make up larger than life people. They were there, on those ships.

I have found these three books very informative. I don't have a big interest in the air war, but these books I really enjoyed. The first two show how bad the U.S. got screwed by MacArthur and how the average pilot was behind the 8 ball. The third book goes into the hopeless situation of the American...
