A good video about the issues that arose from Berman and how Braga had good ideas, he was very random in the quality of his ideas.

You're not doing the RADIATION PLUME WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE thing are you? Please go and read the Nuclear Game essays> They really answer many of your questions. Real effect or no, it is all down to the perception of the workforce as to what and where is safe. It doesn't matter what's real if most peo...

Except that the B-1s are out of the nuclear strike business. But how long would it take to bring them back up to readiness? From the status Global Strike, I suspect crew training and qualification will be the limiting factor. Didn't the Soviets keep all the equipment needed to re-enable all of that...

I wonder how many heads would explode if First Contact came in the form of a signal from the commander of an analogue of a CVN battlegroup, requesting permission to make the equivalent of a port call because Quartermaster Globnak screwed up his figures and half the spoo spoiled before their patrol ...

I have some misgivings about recovering too many of these relics. If we do it enough future archeologists won't have much, if anything to find on the scale of a tank, or larger. That ties into the larger thing I've pondered, that modern archeology might be vacuuming up everything of the past under t...

Here's a "live" reconstruction, it's pretty evident that the people were a bit more advanced than one perhaps assume when one hear of "bloodthirsty vikings". It's something that's bugged me since I was a kid, but all the more so since then since the main people pushing that now ...

We may be humbled to one day find ourselves joined, across the distance of stars, to a more ancient web of minds, fellow travelers in the long journey of time. We may receive from them an education in the real history of civilizations, young, old, and extinct. We may be introduced to galactic-scale...

Any surprise comes more from our prejudices towards what the Ancients could do that is ultimately where the "Ancient Alien" crap comes from. Another one of these fonts of export is Afghanistan which was the main source of Old World Lapis Lazuli and still is one of the main producers. One o...

However since it appears to (roughly) mirror the shape of the grand gallery and is situated above it I am personally rather sceptical of anyone eager to dismiss it as an empty space without further study. It's not new, it's just been that said skepticism has dismissed evidence of such a void for a ...

Looks good. I'm getting tired of that kind of blaring siren type of music that seems to have become ubiquitous in movies since this decade began that's in the Blucher clip. That clip does show how narrow the inlet was. I assumed it was at least three to four times that size. It makes me wonder why t...

And while that hits at the (somewhat) rational fears, as I mentioned earlier, radiation came around, as something known to Johnny Q. Publik, at just the right time when 'the old superstisitions' were fading before the age of modern science, to take their place with the primal irrational fears were....

Why on earth would we want anything to do with ANOTHER group that doesn't play well with others and would demand every sign in the country be bilingual, particularly in a language that, at least in the US, isn't really used by anyone (except a vanishingly small minority) as their primary language? ...

In 1809 the perhaps greatest tragedy that has ever befallen Sweden struck as Finland was lost to Russia. I'd rather call the Great Northern War that. Once Russia had established St. Petersberg and Peter was allowed to devote his energies into pushing for his Window on the West he either had to be c...

Is it me or is there a strong flavor of "NUCLEAR STUFF!!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!" in the articles in this thread? Or am I far less educated in the area of nuclear residue from initiations than I previously assumed? Or, am I at the point where if I like my fingers I should stop asking q...

Interesting idea about cats Beastro but maybe not with cats who are serious about getting their teeth into something. Probably the best Nik could do is to sufficiently keep up with one to the point that it gives up hunting as that great noisy lumbering naked ape, sorry most esteemed human companion...

Chuckles aside, a 'Black Dog' is already stalking me. Hugging a cat might help, but they've all gone out ratting... It may sound odd, but it might help going out and following them around. It's no where near the exercise or mutually interactive experience of walking a dog (or ferret, well for the l...
