Plus, it's always great when they steal Mom's phone and run and hide behind the curtains for a private chat.

And then they get really confused whenever there's no video to go along with the voice

Congrats Senior!

Our little one (16mth) will grab the phone off me to Facetime my parents, running around the house giggling whilst she does it. Until we started doing regular video calls, she was nervous of and shy around them. Now, she links the people she laughs and giggles and baby-talks to over the phone with them in person and it's a whole new level of confidence, amazing change really.

Never ceases to amaze me how comfortable very small children are with the latest mass technology and how difficult it is for me to mater these days.

As an RD/OS I was quite comfortable with some pretty sophisticated technology. Sally has very sophisticated marine electronics aboard. I have no problem getting the best out of her AIS, Chartplotter, EPIRB, MFDs, Radar, VHF Radio but, so far, smart phones have kicked my A$$.

By the way, the Crimp and my old Ensign cost me the best part of a summer's cruising, at 69 I can't afford much more of that waste, but my revenge is really splurging on a new suit of heavy weather sails and the latest marine electronics for sally. I plan on some really long cruises this spring, summer and fall. I'm going to circumnavigate Nova Scotia and make a Run to Bermuda.

But I Digress ;)

Case in point is my few days old Samsung Galaxy J3 Eclipse smart phone. The crimp talked me into upgrading from my tried and true old Flip phone. By the way, I never wanted a cell phone but No.1 daughter put me on her plan and gave me the flip phone. She insisted it was a safety device. I must admit, I have found use for it but I'd get along quite well without it and sometimes don't carry it for days at a time.

I really think subconsciously I don't want to be tied down/addicted to the damn thing. Same thing with the tablet I was given for Christmas. I have no problem with Audio books, at least for fiction, especially when driving. However, for Non-fiction and especially technical matters I prefer a REAL Book. I find reading from a tablet very unsatisfying.

I am very proud to be a 20'th century Neaderthal.

I appreciate your warm feelings for my little Grand daughter.

Senior, she swipes up the screen with her index finger and down the screen with her thumb... without even being conscious of it. I kid you not, I'm in awe...

OTOH, it's much less funny if they set their greedy little minds on you brand new tablet. Word of advise: Keep the old ones.

Congratulations, Senior!

I'm a long way from having a grandchild at this point, so I won't offer any advice.

Hope you enjoyed the prime rib and the stogie!

Hurray! You get 'em small - my poor petite wife. I had a buddy knock out a 10 pounder!

In Space Odyssey they had to sit down infront of monitor larger than my microwave oven. My banged up cellphone has more computational power than the Saturn V. No space planes, orbital hotel, or moon bases... that we know of. By the way, my (almost 4) daughter can work an xbox controller just as well as my wife.

Latest news. Her name is Madeline.

Funny, I remember reading those books to her mother.

I'd love to give Madeline, our Simon and Schuster, 1939. Hard cover, first edition, 1st printing
I picked up (for a song) in Singapore @1985 for both daughters? It's in great shape.
Shanghai Debbie realized the value immediately and substituted a reprint for the girls book shelf.

Have to run it by NO.1 daughter first.

Pictures as soon as I can figure out how to post them
.

Also, a Madeline doll and a 'daily use' set.

It's a beautiful gift idea, and something she will treasure as she gets older. But you also want her to have a daily use - and easily replaced - copy until she is old enough to properly care for it.

My niece went through an eating books and a ripping book stage. Plus kids are messy.

That's on your local PC. You'll need to upload it to an internet server to get it on the board. You can upload it to the board here directly if you want.

Looks like a baby being attacked by a white coverall.

Babies are designed to be cute, so that parents actually don't mind what they are in for.
