My horse Monty crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. He had been going blind for some time now and ran through a fence on Friday and cut himself quite badly. It was only a matter of time before he hurt himself worse or ended up in the road.

I'll miss him deeply but letting him go is what was best for him.

Run free Monty. Maybe we'll meet again.

My deepest commiserations and sympathy on your loss. All of us who have lost our animal companions know the pain you are feeling right now and can only offer our support and understanding.

Thanks, FU. All relationships with animals end this way, however they enrich our lives while they are here.

This is the first time since the mid '90s that I have not had a horse.

Thanks. I'm not sure what I'll do horse wise yet. I wasn't expecting the end to come quite so soon.

I am deeply sorry to learn about you having lost another non-human family member. Here‘s to hoping you‘ll soon find a new one.

So sorry to hear Jan. Monty was your inspiration in several stories going back a few years ISTR... perhaps Mr. S can find a suitably heroic vignette for him somewhere?

Aw. :(
Never an easy thing to lose an animal companion. My sympathies along with the others.

Well he did appear as Semiramis's horse "Montoi" in Alexander's Generals. :D I'll definitely write him into a future story.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, gents.

Really do appreciate the cameo, Mr S. I'll need to go back and read that.

Thank you.

Thought I'd share these photos from happier days.

May he be in Valhalla, carrying pink-faced cavalrymen in hell-for-leather death-or-glory and devil-take-the-hindmost charges all day, and dine on the sweetest fodder all night, until you are reunited someday in the far, far future.
