Won't lie, I'm a real fan of using BBs (I dunno, something about being able to blow stuff up :P), but I recently decided to just play a game with Black Swan for the hell of it. You know, those low-tier Cruisers are a lot more fun than people give them credit for!

I cannot make that POS work. It's slow, clunky, lacks punch, and an easy target. While I command it.... I just can't get along with it. Although I did manage to down 24 aeroplanes in one battle...

I'm now loving the FIJI and halfway through the grind to tier 8.

I think I need to reacquaint myself with the game. I suck at everything... Had some success with DDs, I hate BBs and cruisers are in between the former. I won't touch carriers with a pair of tongs.

Trek, you up for a game? :D

Hit me up on Friday afternoon, I will be. It's much better when working with friends.

Sorry to whomever I missed playing with last night. Was tired and went to bed...
Maybe next time as my SMS Bayern needs a good spotting/escort ship. I'm thinking British CL with smoke for instance......

Just tried tier 2 German DDs and RN Cruisers. Both are quite fun.

How does a nice FIJI sound?

New patch today, main changes I can make out are New French Cruisers and a buff to the Tirpitz's secondary battery range to match Bismarck's.

Looking at it, especially the Mighty Jingles commentary, I'm really turned off by the gamesmanship aspects.

What would those of you who do play think about a realistic simulation server?
1. Slow the ships to actual speed, or possibly slightly faster and decrease the other timings to match?
2. Increase game time to something like 40 minutes because of (1).
3. Historical ranges
4. Nerf torpedoes to somewhere closer to historical - no infinite reloads, only ships that actually carried reloads to be able to do so, and make a reload time of 10 or 15 minutes (instead of 1 hr)
5. Turn off the buffs and nerfs made in the name of ship balancing

Would enough people want to play it?

I think it would be a superb idea and immediately killed off by the same virtue.

War Thunder tried to incorporate playable ships into their air/ ground combat sim. They found that the speeds and ranges of air/ ground combat units vetsus those of naval, the naval units could do nothing st all to interact with anything else in a realistic game timespan- except get bombed, torped & strafed by the aircraft and maybe shoot a few down. So much so that after two years of promising it, they've given it up in favour of gunboats and no bigger.

In WoWS a destroyer doing 35kts is actually doing around180km/h, I worked out. There's huge compression going on.

War Thunder in full Realism mode is a scary thing to behold, too...

And you also run into the issue where, if you cut out the "infinte torps", yes you now have the added element of having to decide just when to fire them off - but once you do, you're...um...well okay you can just sail around now-

WoWS is like capitalism. It's a bad system but all alternatives are worse. :)

Cleveland has been beaten so severely with a Nerf bat its sometimes hard to remember what it was like, and it was a holy terror in its day.

IME Clevelanding is ALL about the gunnery, and being as you've got trebuchets powered by recycled knicker elastic that means a ton of practice (in my case anyway). But once you can get the DPS on target, the whole ship makes a lot more sense. It used to MELT anything it encountered, between the fires and the raw HE spam.... put it this way I used to tell people they had to get a Cleveland because it was like garlic, so overpowering it was only tolerable when everyone had it. :)

I'm loving the FIJI, it's a beast. Two battles, two wins, 2nd and 3rd place and on the second battle I was holding baby for 3/4 of it :D
