And sadly confirmed by Fox News.

There are very, very few performers or groups who have my complete and undivided attention once they start playing, and Steely Dan was one of them. Walt Becker and Don Fagen created a sound - a thoroughly off-the-wall fusion of rock, jazz, blues, soul, Eastern, and occasionally country - that defies description or pigeonholing. No two of their songs sounded alike, and to the very end they had and kept the awesome professional skill of the Dead or Floyd at their height. They also had a delightful and thoroughly caustic disrespect for the idiots at the RARHOF, who could never quite figure out how - or if - to honor them.

It needs to be noted that both men - Becker especially - were quite aware of their gifts, and had no problem reminding people just how good they were. On the other hand, every time they got on a stage or behind a recording mike, anyone with the cojones to challenge them tended to simply shut up and listen.

Walt Becker will be missed, Here At The Western World.
