Roman Legion Crosses the Delaware 22
2 Iulius, 758 AUC (2 July, 5 CE), Segaechericsburg, Neuretiswald

While Helga and Malemeho talked and traded Kahontokwaho, several of the Ronkway, Segaecheric, Wulf and two King’s Guard wandered off together to play alghwecgno. The Ronkway brought extra sticks for the Segaechericsburgeren.

Swift Shooter was a hard player, known for his shots on goal. He enjoyed the game but was slowed by his sneezing today. Another Ronkway said “We should name you Sneezes Loudly.” Kahontokwaho laughed and they played on.
Segaecheric and his men enjoyed the game and learned the rules, such as they were. i.e. Throw the ball through the goal, usually a village gate. All ball handling is by the stick except the goalie could use his hands, arms etc. within a marked area of the goal. Blocking, tripping, and hitting with the stick are allowed but try not to kill anyone, it is a friendly game, others may refuse to play with you.

Segaecheric got better at it. When he ran with the ball he learned how to move his stick so it didn’t bounce out onto the ground. He learned how to hit his opponent’s stick so it bounced on the ground and he swiftly scooped up the ball and ran with it. He was known for his swiftness. They played around until the trading was complete. The Ronkway were very encouraging.

Segaecheric and Wulf again sat with Helga and the Council Scribe late into the night studying the Ronkway language.

2 Iulius, 758 AUC (2 July, 5 CE), Fabius’ sawmill complex building site
Gaius was inspecting progress at the sawmill site. “Fabius” he said “your changes to the plans with the gearing looks interesting. Are you sure the wood will be strong enough?”
Fabius said “It is the same setup we use on large siege engines. We checked and there is less pressure on this setup.”
Gaius said “In that case when will it be working?”
Fabius said “Cletus came up with the idea. He says three or four days. We may need to correct any glitches so give us six days.”

Gaius had his scribe note Cletus’ name.

3 Iulius, 758 AUC (3 July, 5 CE), II Legion’s camp, Castra Nova Rhenus, Germania Interior
Rufus met with II Legion’s Primus Pilum. “We have over six hundred legionaries down with aches, sneezing and coughing and fevers at the end of the day. They are too weak to stand formation. I am rearranging the guard and work rosters. We do not have enough doctors to treat them, not that we know how to treat this disease.”

Rufus said “Do the best you can.” Not knowing what else to say. He went to the Governor/Dictator and reported the problem.
