Kaiser Karl VI is on course 55, speed 11 knots. She is leading Leopard and Panther towards the convoy.

Panther is on course 55, speed 11 knots.

Leopard’s is on course 55, speed 11 knots.

The cruisers have not been under fire in the last 5 minutes. We have closed formation down to 1,000 yard intervals. Dandalo is moving towards us at about 15 knots. We estimate she will be in firing range in about 5-10 minutes if all vessels stay on their present course.

Our Battle Divisions are on course 101 at 14 knots because of damage to various vessels. Ezherhog Karl is making 10 knots and our destroyers have successfully avoided her. Ezherhog Karl is rapidly being left behind.

Our First torpedoboat group has begun their torpedo attack. Each ship has launched it’s torpedoes and fired it’s guns against the nearest target. Needless to say their guns have had limited effect. Second torpedoboat group is not yet in position to launch it’s torpedoes.

Third destroyer group has also launched it’s torpedoes at the enemy cruiser line.

Wal was nearly rammed by the Marco Polo.

Our battleships fire against the enemy battleline has mostly been ineffective as the enemy is maneuvering away from our battleline to avoid our torpedo attack.

Re Umberto was straddled.
Sardegna was hit once with unknown effect.
Napoli is still burning.
No other battleship appears to have been hit in the last 5 minutes.
We have had some better luck with damaging the enemy cruiser line.
Etruria was hit several times in her secondary battery and is burning.
Elba suffered a catastrophic hit amidships. She has slowed and she has stopped firing. She may be sinking.
Varese took a hit amidships that has slowed her.

Ship status update:

Hapsburg has lost her forward turret and has suffered severe hull damage. She is limited to 15 knots.
Erzherhog Ferdinand Max has lost her after fire control station and her rear turret. Her bow is wrecked and she is limited to 15 knots.
Babenburg is undamaged.
Árpád is undamaged.
Budapest has suffered minor firecontrol damage. She has recovered her steering and remains in line.
Monarch has suffered no major damage
Wien has suffered no major damage.
Erzherhog Friedrich has lost her forward turret and has suffered minor hull damage. She is limited to 17 knots.
Erzherhog Karl is limited to 10 knots because of her torpedo hit. She is otherwise battleworthy but is unable to keep up with the battleline.
Kaiser Karl VI has suffered secondary battery damage and is low on ammo. She has about 100 rounds of main battery ammo remaining.
Zenta is currently out of action. Her main battery can’t train because she has no electrical power because from an engine hit. She has also taken hull damage and is limited to 10 knots.
Panther has suffered hull damage significant hull damage and is limited to 11 knots.
Leopard is essentially undamaged.
Our Destroyers are undamaged except for the Komet.
Komet has suffered minor hull damage and has lost one of her port guns.
Our remaining torpedoboats are essentially undamaged.

The enemy battleline has moved away from us to avoid our torpedo attack. We estimate their course to be about 100 degrees relative to North.

Their destroyers have formed a line and are likely forming up for their own torpedo attack.

Sorry I've not responded lately. Been out on a job for a few weeks.

So... We've smacked the Italian fleet about a bit and they're headed away from us, right?

Isn't the objective to keep them from landing their convoy on our coast?

I recommend to the flag that we ignore any ships sailing away from us, and attempt to close the convoy with the aim of destroying it. Force the Italians to close to our range.

I further recommend that we send the damaged battlewagon that is falling behind north, away from combat, and send a destroyer or two with her, in case of enemy action.

I also am concerned about the ammo status of my ships. Can I get an update?

Do either of my recommendations make sense?

Thanks
Belushi TD

Real world stuff has a way of changing your plans. It has happened to me often enough over the last few years.

I consider what happened to Isabel and I consider myself lucky when I have had a problem with a kid or what not.

So to the matter at hand...

The Italian BB's have turned away to avoid the oncoming torpedo attack. Remember that the torpedoes of this time really don't go very far. You will either get hits next turn (which will probably be noticed) and you will likely see the Italians turn back on you in a turn or two.

All of your ships are fine on ammo except for Rob's cruisers. Most of your ships have 200 (or more) rounds for the main guns which is good for another hour or two of fighting. You will run out of secondary ammo in a few years based on how slow those guns fire.

Can we get a count on available torpedoes, please.

Was going to set aside the cognac and order ships around, but will wait on that.

Crap!!!

For some reason, I forgot we had sent in a torpedo attack.

Forget all my recomendations and go for the throat!

Finally getting some creative time...

Convoy is the priority. Unless we have a good reason to pursue the battle fleet I believe we'd be best off seek-and-destroying it lest we win the battle but lose the war, so to speak...so I believe Belushi's original suggestion is best, unless there's reasons my not-so-tactical brain aren't seeing?

If there's no further comments/advice, orders will be attempted in 24 or so hours.

Alrighty then...

Erzherzog Karl is detatched to the Cruiser Squadron Commander.

The battleline is hereby ordered to set course for the convoy, speed 15 knots. Engineers on Hapsburg and EFM are ordered to attempt to shore up the bows for 17 knots ASAP.

Ships are to continue to fire upon the Italian battleline as they bear, lead ships to switch fire to Dandalo as soon as she is in range.

Destroyer squadron is ordered to prepare to engage their opposite numbers. I don't want mosquitoes needing swatting!

Erzherzog Karl cannot reach our position until well after you do, and the Cruiser Squadron will shortly be brought to action by Dandolo and rendered unable to attack the convoy and escorts due to ammunition shortages. Unless you intend to force the Italian Battleline to the south, away from the convoy and then pursue it, she's better off with you.
