The Chinese looked at the HAWK SAM system in the 80s.

I think the J-10 would certainly go forward, though the question would be if it uses a Western engine or a WS-10 with western input. (I doubt that the Mirage 2000 would be purchased even if it was available, since the PLAAF has a very large modernization need and buying about 500 to 600 Mirage 2000s is probably beyond Beijing's means. Buying a smaller amount will create logistical headaches).

The Chinese won't get the Su-27, which is going to be a major problem for them. For a heavyweight fighter, the Tornado could do, I suppose.

Anyone want to bet on whether or not the various armies in TLW might find that certain soldiers might have a hard time surrendering? In the past, snipers have often been summarily shot on capture, or on the march back to the rear. Flamethrower operators, also, have had similar problems: at Stalingrad, if the Soviets captured a German flamethrower operator, the unfortunate German was often put to death with his own weapon. I would imagine that in TLW, snipers might have problems getting back to the rear if they're captured, if WW II is any guide.

Snipers have always had a hard time surrendering, as have machine-gunners in some circumstances.

I wonder if the Soviets will ever get around to issuing their own 'Commando Order', because methinks that the rear areas of the Warpact might also be teeming with SAS, SBS, Delta Force, KSK and all the others.

EDIT: Come to think of it, the KSK probably wasn't formed, since the Bundeswehr would still be seeing itself as a wholly defensive force.

I'm not so sure.

They seem to be trying to follow the Geneva Convention to the letter so far. The conventional forces anyway, not so sure about that GRU guy who was caught by the general trying to execute people or whatever though.

I don't see it happening, for one thing Western rear areas are full of Spetsnaz and NATO could start executing them in retaliation.

Those were also not special forces or snipers he was trying to execute - they were Norwegian Home Guard men or Border Rangers, cauhgt while conducting Destruction of Communications behind Soviet lines in Finnmark.

C/2-18 Infantry and 2/1st Welsh Guards, respectively, marching down Red Square

End result of TLW? =P

Sigh. If only we could see the Austrians parading through Red Square!

Nice. :D
1 Welsh Guards are in Kuwait at the moment though. Be a nice illustration of a victory parade though.
Any pics of Russian troops in London that might show an opposite result?

Jan please check your PMs.

Eeo thanks for the photos, the ones with the USArmy in Moscow I've seen have the troops marching with that pixelized cammo uniform. These boys look much more presentable. The hardcore Soviets must be having fits though... decadent imperialists parading in Red Square... the worst nightmare has come to life :)

Got the PM; hopefully my reply has reached you.

I think that those pics perhaps really illustrate who really won the Cold War. :D
You're probably right about the hard core Communists; they must have been going crazy, especially to see troops from the British Brigade of Guards.

According to reports, when PM Brown and President Obama couldn't make the parade, their suggested replacements were HRH, The Price of Wales and VP Biden.

The Russian said no.

What's this about smart diplomacy and restoring our relationships to our allies?

The Russian have also said that they'll be happy with the Tories in government.

Maybe they think they'll be less likely to play "follow the leader" with the US? Arent they a little bit more euro-sceptic as well?

They got PO'd at the last lot for giving a dissident asylum. Of course we got PO'd at them over the Litvinenko Affair when they refused to extradite the main suspect.

I've recently come across one of the 11 Group War diary sections, and it seems to me that Moscow has learned absolutely zilch from the 1st Battle of Britain. What I'd like to know, what's the situation of the opposing forces at the moment (Chapter 125), so that I can give myself a picture of just what the situation is, because we don't really know anything beyond 'confused'.

A bunch of years ago, just before the collapse of the Soviet Union, our camp hosted a troop of Soviet Boy Scouts. (They were allowed into the World Scouting movement after they made the Young Pioneers sufficiently voluntary.) Of course, we had morning and evening Colors, where both sides hoisted and struck their flags.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when I would be saluting (NOT pledging allegiance to) the Soviet flag.

Interestingly, they folded their flag into a tricorn, like we did. When asked about that, they said they actually had no formal way of folding their flag, so they copied ours as a courtesy, and because they thought it was cool.

Nice kids. they ate like bears, and the KGB woman never smiled.

Ah but remember, our fraternal and peace-loving comrades from the Soviet Union are not warmongers and only seek peace among nations, that KGB lady was only there so that the easily impressed young soviet minds wouldn't be filled with the capitalist propaganda that you were undoubtedly speaking :)

I can't for the life of me remember how we folder our flag in the Cub Scouts. I never actually moved on to the Scouts when I was too old for the Cubs; I'd had quite enough.

Of course they were. After all they peacefully invaded Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan. ;)
