USS Bedford hit a Japanese tug. This time, though, it was the tug that lost power and drifted into the way. Minor damage reported.

....Double checked the name, that's USS Benfold. Bedford has a bad enough rep:

You beat me to it. Everyone knows how The Bedford Incident ends, of course.

That's slightly better, but who do we send in to do the remedial training?

I was going to say "but Benfold only transferred to the 7th Fleet recently", but then I realized it's been about two years, which is more than enough time for the rot to set in.
Benfold was at Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station when I first got to California, and was the first USN warship I saw reasonably close-up. That was just before she left for Japan.

The perils of posting from a phone. I suppose I didn't double check back and forth between news story and the post. Or Autocorrect decided that Bedford was the right spelling.

Mea culpa.

This one sounds a bit different from the last two. The Benford was engaged in a towing exercise with the tug. They were supposed to be that close. I suspect the Japanese skipper in this one.

My understanding is that the tug lost power. In that case, not much you can do if you're in close quarters.

In that case, you page Brown Alert and hang on.
