The funeral of Franz Ferdinand and Sophie is held. It is a small, shabby affair; Sophie was not of royal birth and consequently the couple were unpopular at court. The emperor does not even attend the funeral of the people whose murders are about to provide the pretext for plunging his empire, and all Europe, into war.
