On another forum I frequent, aside from the "Quote" option there exists the option to add your thanks to a particularly flavoursome, interesting or juicy post. It shows up underneath that post as a "Users who added their thanks: <list>, <list>" etc.

I find it's quite handy to be able to give a nod of appreciation to something that's particularly well-constructed or to the point, without having to add in a post of my own (which might be inappropriate).

Any chance of adding this functionality, Admin?

Um, some forums call it the 'LIKE' button, and it does reduce the number of 'me-too' posts.

Against that, it can be too easy to trivially 'like' per Facebook etc...

Some forums even have 'SILIKE' buttons.

It would be a nice feature I think. But I like the old school format of this forum too, so I'm good with either way.

Another forum I go to has a "positive/negative rating" feature where only titled (experienced member, proven, relevant professional in real life etc) members can give them.

Its another option maybe?
