I was unable to access the board for about 36 or so hours on Wednesday and Thursday. I am still unable to get here from the main www.tboverse.us link. I've found a work around by going directly to the main board index and not going through the login page. But I can't do that from all the computers I use.

Is anyone else suffering a similar issue, or is it just me?

Me, three...

But, I got to the TBO home page, which said something about unavailable due unscheduled maintenance...

For a moment, the Ghosts of the Great EZ-Board Hack sent goose-bumps up my spine...

I also was having these problems for around the same time frame. What happened?

I still get the same message and I felt much the same chills.

As you probably all realize, we had a problem. A serious one. About 5pm Wednesday night, we got a excess number of connections error and shortly afterwards, the site went down completely. Its taken this long to fix it but thanks to our Polar Bear and the good folks at our host, we got everything back. We've been running for a few hours on an alternative entrance point; things seem good now.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Please let us know if you find something weird.

Me too. I haven't been able to get here for about 36 hours. And I too still can't get here via the tboverse.us home page, although the other links on that page still work.

Got here now by a google search that turned up a facebook hit for a member that was over a year old. He had a post with live links. If none of that makes any sense, well it doesn't to me either.

I'm gonna bookmark the index page for now.

IMHO, the host error message was grossly inappropriate, being what is usually shown when a site is dead, defunct, name for sale etc etc.

At least I had the wit to hunt down the TBO 'home' page, which had useful information...

Brrrr....

Thank you both to Ursus Maritimus and the good folks at our host!

Was this an attack of some sort, or did some piece of hardware crap out?

I felt much the same way as Nik.

Odd thing.... After I post, and I hit the back button, it used to give me a "this page has expired" and then I'd hit the back button again, and get back to the page I was on when I hit the reply button. Now, it gives me a different error message, and I can't go back or forward.

The honest answer is we don't know. Some of the symptoms are similar to a DDOS, other to a hack, others to a SHeeet Happens. We'll keep everybody briefed. As I said, if you see or experience anything weird - especially a pop-up trying to appear, let us know right away.

That's always a good reserve way in. Sometimes the address changes slightly at the host end and the index page follows automatically. This was a bad do all around.

My first failed attempt to go to the Board was met with a diagnostic (or whatever they are called) that said that the Board had reached the maximum number of allowable users and that I should try again later.

Later the site just wasn't found.....

I have finally reached the board through my usual contact. Previous ones resulted in 503 errors and then this site doesn't exist anymore. Attempts to reach the board through google brought up something along the lines of "the site is undergoing unscheduled maintenance. we hope to be back soon."

For what it is worth, I don't think this is a DDOS attack, I think that this is a targeted attack, either through an attachment, or a direct assault.

Mark

BZ on re-establishling the board.

That last message was us, trying to tell people we were working on the problem and we would return ASAP.

You may well be right; something bad happened. Whether it was equipment malfunction of an attack of some sort, we'll doubtless find out.

Glad to see it back up; it did lead to my first login at Warships1 for 7 years.

I thought the message was from you (the board) and it gave me hope. Thank you. This board has become something of a daily fixture for me, i.e. an island of diversity of opinion, but not political correctness in a sea of mindless inanity.

Thank you to all the fine people who brought the site back up!

I too checked the main page to see if I could get in that way. I also reread all the entries in the Omnipedia again. :)

I was almost ready to either send Stuart a LinkedIn message or do the same- couldn't access anything through any means. Then I remembered I had Jan's email address (which lead me to here- funny how things go around). And now we're back.

Good, you're all extended family really. I like this place.

I approve. :)

Also, did anyone screenshot or otherwise save the entire text of the error message?
