The global impact of terrorism last year was $84bn, representing a 7% decline from 2015 and a 19% decline from its 2014 peak. There was also a 13% drop in deaths in 2016 over 2015 and a 22% drop versus the peak of 2014. However the Global Terror Index increased by 4% due to more countries than ever experiencing at least one terror-related death.
